Musical Discovery Themes Publisher's Description
This is an interactive dictionary of musical themes. You can listen to the classical hit parades of symphonies, concertos, piano music and more.
If you have a tune in your head, just pick out up to the first 10 notes on the virtual piano keyboard. MD Themes will look it up in its dictionary, identify it for you, and play an orchestrated version back to you, whilst displaying its title and all the info you need.
The juke box allows you to choose the types of music you want to hear, then play it all to you.
The standard database contains over 1100 tunes and themes, many of them are fully orchestrated. You can add your own!
There are quizzes to test your ability in recognizing tunes and instruments.
You can view and change any tune in the database, using a musical staff, with multiple tracks. And you can write your own new tunes. If these tunes are songs which have words (often called "lyrics"), you can also view and edit them.
You can view and edit musical expression (tempo and dynamics) using an easy graphical interface, or you can apply MIDI effects like reverb, chorus, pan, modulation, portamento and so on, with user-friendly input screens. There is also a metronome screen which can be used as a tune is playing, or on its own as a live metronome while you play real live music yourself!
There is comprehensive information about composers, periods or styles of music, instruments, categories of music, ensembles, countries and their music, a musical history time line set alongside world history, The Americas, Great Britain, and Australia and New Zealand. All this information is tightly linked to the music to which it refers.
You can use the system to create your own separate databases, with your own MIDI music and your own composer, category and other data. This may be used by teachers, enthusiasts for a particular genre of music, students, and many others. It is particularly useful for storing aural tests for instrumental music exams.
